Enjoy the ride!

310 Horses from all over Europe and 4268 Entries

"Something Special" – that’s what the FEQHA European Championship of American Quarter Horses habe been, but this year especially so. Corona & Co. presented considerable challenges to all involved, especially FEQHA Vice President Markus Müller. He had taken over the organization of the European Championship for the first time. "Because of Corona, we had very little time for preparation," said Müller. "Under these circumstances, it was only possible with a very experienced team. I had the ideal partners for this in Renate Gruber and Rainer Maierhofer. Nevertheless, the effort was considerable, because there were only three of us involved in the entire planning. Corona restrictions made things even more difficult. But in the end, everything worked out amazingly well. If a problem arose somewhere, we always found a solution somehow, simply because we wanted to and wanted to be there for the participants."

The enthusiasm and joy of finally being able to show one's horses on a large stage again could be felt everywhere at this show. 310 American Quarter Horses from all over Europe were entered for this European Championship. Alone in the Level 1 classes with two judges (Vreni Schmid, SUI and Cedric Leroux, BEL) there were 1000 entries, in the 4 AQHA shows another 3268 entries. A considerable number, which unfortunately also extended the schedule further than planned. But also here the team around Markus Müller found a solution: A fifth judge had to be found! This was Helga Hommel, who spontaneously agreed and made her way to Kreuth together with her husband.

Big Trail and Western Riding Classes – superb American Quarter Horses

Especially the disciplines Trail and Western Riding were in great demand at this European Championship. Where else in this country can you find a Green Trail with 60 and a Senior Trail with 50 horses, or a Green Western Riding with 43? But also the Western Pleasure and Hunter classes as well as the Showmanship were in high demand - and even higher in quality! What outstanding horses these were!!! Markus Müller also had to admit that the quality of the horses had once again increased considerably. For example, there were even scores of 80 in the Trail. Gold in the Senior Trail was claimed by Sabine Lohninger from Austria aboard Lope For The Blues (they also won the Covid Trail), in the Junior Trail by Nina Drangmeister aboard Black N Silver Only, in Trail Amateur by Mirja Bassing aboard Only Guns N Roses and in Youth by Alexandra Mascher and KH Corona Kid.

With all the many outstanding sporting achievements, not all can be mentioned here. Therefore, only a few are mentioned as representatives. For example, Austrian rider Christina Gruber managed to win gold twice, demonstrating her versatility: in Senior Reining Open with Thomas Blechinger’s 9-year-old mare MS Sesolita Fury and in Junior Western Riding Open aboard Laura Kraak’s 4-year-old gelding Jet Settin Moonlite. For Christina Gruber, who already rode very successfully for Austria as a youth rider, this was not the first European Championship success - just think of her gold ride with Grizzoom at the 2018 European Championships. Christina, who worked for Karin Prevedel for a long time, is currently working as an independent trainer in Rohr / Freystadt and will move to a newly built facility in Austria next year.

There were a total of four medals in the Amateur Select classes for Pia Schorno and her 10-year-old QH mare A Good Sunset: the two won gold in Trail, silver in Horsemanship and two bronze medals in Western Pleasure and Showmanship.

High Quality in Halter Classes

The Halter classes were well attended and with outstanding horses. Rojo Solo Cup won two gold medals: the 2011 red roan stallion (Born To Be Blazin x Such Good Potential), owned by Philipp Roos, became European Champion Stallions 3 and over (presented by Alexandra Jagfeld) and with his owner European Champion Amateur Halter. In addition, the two took gold in Western Pleasure Select Amateur.

Also for the Kaiser family the way to Kreuth was worthwhile: in the Halter Shows Marko Kaiser won four gold medals with his horses: with Move Over Darling (Classically x Malibukini) he won the Ages Mares Amateur as well as the Open and with My Secret Luv the 2-year-old Mares Amateur and Open. His wife Judith claimed the European Championship Stallions 2 & under Open with her Xcuse My French.

The largest Halter class was the Geldings 3 & over Amateur with 15 horses. European Champion was the 5-year-old bay Iota Wisely Invested (Investing Wisely x Iota Be An Asset), shown by his owner Katharina Schulze. The gelding was bred by multiple DQHA Leading Breeder Horst Müller.

4 European Championship Titles in Longe Line and Trail in Hand

A novelty at this European Championship were the young horse classes Longe Line and Trail in Hand, each for 2 and 3 year old horses. These classes will not become official AQHA classes until 2022. But the FEQHA had anticipated the development and already awarded four European Championship titles this year.

NSBA Futurity and FEQHA Youth Team Cup

Also the NSBA held its Western Pleasure and Hunter Futurity again in the context of the European Championship and shone with strong and remarkable classes. Another highlight was the FEQHA European Team Cup. The Amateur Cup was unfortunately cancelled due to lack of participation, but there were four strong youth teams.  In the Youth Team Cup,  Germany (with five participants) claimed the title with 211 points with Italy following on second place with 172 points. Switzerland came in a close third (171). Both nations had four participants each at the start. The Dutch, who had only three participants instead of the allowed five, came in fourth with 62 points. In a very emotional award ceremony, which (like all award ceremonies) was personally conducted by Markus Müller and FEQHA Treasurer Stephan Göb as well as FEQHA President Andrew Dren, the successful youths were celebrated.

AQHA with service personally on site

The American Quarter Horse Association was again personally on site (AQHA Director of International Activities Sierra Kane and AQHA Manager of Multilingual Resources and Communication Ashley Baller) and provided special service, which was actively used by the members.

The first finalists have been determined

(Ramona Billing) The 31st European Championship of American Quarter Horses in Kreuth is in full swing. Meanwhile, the first finalists have been determined, and one thing is already certain: these will be thrilling finals! So many great horses from all over Europe are gathered here, and so many excellent rides have already been seen, that it is difficult to list them all here. Therefore, only three classes are mentioned here as examples.

"Everything is going flawlessly, and the atmosphere is excellent," FEQHA Vice President Markus Mueller said enthusiastically. "Everyone is excited to finally be able to show again." Really strong - both in terms of numbers and quality - are the Western Pleasure and Hunter classes. The judges did not have an easy time deciding in the Senior Hunter under Saddle Open. Here two judges saw Celebrities Only with Sylvia Eigler in the saddler in front in a field of 18, another GC Impressionoflove with Elif Schleininger and the fourth Its A Blue Honour under Jadasa Jablonowski.

19 horses presented themselves to the judges in the Junior Western Pleasure Open. Here the judges saw Shez Hot An Sudden under Karin Prevedel or Jet Settin Moonlite under Mark Shaffer in first place.

The fact that the Select Classes are becoming more and more popular is also evident at this European Championships. Eleven excellent horses and riders competed in the Horsemanship Amateur Select, which was dominated in the Go round by Rojo Solo Cup under Philipp Roos and Funny Little BH under Andrea Giesecke.

Today and tomorrow it continues with the go-rounds. The decisions for the European Champions will be made on Friday until Sunday.

These are the previous Go Round Leaders

Congratulations to all finalists and good luck for the final!

Participant information for the 31st European Championship of American Quarter Horses

Just about 300 American Quarter Horses have been entered for this year's European Championship of Quarter Horses. This equals the number of horses entered in the last European Quarter Horse Championship in 2019, which means that even in Corona times, Quarter Horse enthusiasts will not be stopped from competing to determine the best of the best.

The trail classes have grown significantly compared to 2019, with 59 horses competing in the Green Trail and 51 horses competing in the Senior Trail. Also the Novice Amateur Trail with 46 and the Amateur Trail with 42 starters can be seen. But also the Western Riding classes are well attended: Green 42, Senior 33 and Amateur 26 starters. No less popular are the Amateur Showmanship with 33 entries and the Amateur Horsmanship Amateur with 28 entries.

The youth classes are well attended with an average of 8-18 starters. Also, the Longe Line and Trail in Hand, which are for 2 and 3 year old horses, were well liked with 22 and 21 entries. The so-called Covid classes, offered as an additional starting opportunity with an attractive prize money, which are ridden in Covid disguise, were also very popular with 18 (Pleasure) and 28 (Trail) participants. And those who want to see good young horses for Pleasure and Hunter should not miss the NSBA Futurity classes.

Free livestream for spectators
Unfortunately, no spectators will be allowed during the event, as limited numbers would only be allowed in fixed numbered seats. So we recommend that all those 'left at home' watch the event on the Internet on the free livestream at www.equinestream.com

AQHA paper service in Kreuth from August 8-10
AQHA will offer an on-site paper service Saturday through Monday at the Ostbayernhalle. Anyone who wants to register a foal, transfer a horse or register a stallion as a gelding can have this done at the AQHA booth in the Ostbayernhalle from Saturday through Monday.

Arrival / Contact sheets
Arrival can take place from Friday around 8 am. Participants are allowed to bring two accompanying persons each, if they indicate them on the contact sheet (see file: registration form exhibitor). Upon arrival at the show grounds in Kreuth, the fully completed contact sheet and the completed registration form for the horse (see file: registration form horse) must be handed in at the entry control. Each participant will receive a wristband for himself and a maximum of two accompanying persons, which must be worn during the entire show. Persons without a wristband must leave the premises immediately.

Show office
The show office will open on Friday, August 6 at 4 pm. Only three persons may enter the registration office at the same time wearing a mouth guard. Please observe the spacing rules. The equine passports of the horses must be presented at the show office. For horses not coming from Germany, the required official veterinary health certificates must be handed in at the show entry office. The show office is open from 7.30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the show days.

As no entry confirmations have been sent out, we kindly ask all participants to search for their horse in the PDF file '2021 ECQH Entry List.pdf' and to check if all classes have been entered. If this is not the case, please just send an email to the show office.
Due to the high number of starters, some classes had to be postponed again. These postponements are marked in color on the updated schedule, which also includes the starter numbers.
During the show, the schedule and the entry lists for the next day will be published daily on the homepage around 7 pm. Late entries must therefore be made at the show office by 6 p.m. at the latest. The current results will be continuously posted online on the homepage.

Hygiene rules
Regarding the hygiene rules, the following currently applies: FFP2 masks are mandatory indoors. How many households are allowed to meet depends on the incidence in the district of Amberg-Sulzbach. The current incidence is below 10, so currently 10 households with a maximum of 10 people are allowed to meet. At an incidence of 50 or more, a negative corona test must be presented in order to be allowed to enter the area. If these rules change again between now and the show, it will be announced on this website.

We wish you a good journey and a successful show.

Teilnehmerinformationen zur 31. European Championship of Quarter Horses

AQHA-Papier-Service in Kreuth vom 8.-10. August
